A small history of the Spey, told slowly.

SpeySwing began as a quiet fly-fishing notebook. It is widening into a history project about the River Spey and the culture around it: salmon, casting, ghillies, pools, estates, tackle, conservation, Speyside whisky, and the old habit of paying attention to moving water.

The site will favour careful claims over easy romance. Where a story is well sourced, it will say so. Where the record is debated, it will say that too. The aim is not to flatten the Spey into trivia, but to let the place remain complicated.

Some pages will be essays. Some will be notes. Some will be source trails for later work. All of them will circle the same question: how did one river give its name to a way of casting, a region of whisky, and a certain idea of patience?
